1. Chernobil, Ukraine - 26 April 1986 here took place the most nuclear disaster in history caused by negligence authorities.The number of victims who died then and those affectede in the long term is not known today, due to secrecy imposed by the Soviet authorities.
2. Dzerzhinsk, Russia - a center of Russian chemical industry, there were mainly Sarin gas and other toxic substances, during the Cold War. Between 1930 - 1998 there were over 300,000 tonnes of chemical waste disposed, which damaged irreparably area.
3. Haina, Dominican Republic: an urban area heavily polluted by lead because of a factory for recycling car batteries, now closed.
4. Kabwe, Zambia - the second largest city in the country is heavily polluted to lead due mining industry.

9. Ranipet, India - in the last two decades there have been gathered over 1,500,000 tons of waste from the leather processing industry.
10. Rudnaya Pristan / Dalnegorsk, Russia - the city is polluted due to lead mines nearby.


U.S. autos emit more than 333 million tons of carbon dioxide each year, more than one-fifth of the nation's total carbon dioxide emissions.
Any serious effort to fight global warming must include cutting auto emissions.
As the report points out, three factors lead to heat-trapping emissions from automobiles are:
* amount of driving
* fuel economy and
* the carbon content of the gas used.
Drivers can control two of these. We can streamline the trips we take in our car, cutting down our global warming pollution and saving at the pump. We can also choose vehicles with high fuel economy.

WIND ENERGY


Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. Wind power produces about 1.5% of worldwide electricity use,and is growing rapidly, having doubled in the three years between 2005 and 2008. The size of wind machines varies widely. Small turbines used to power a single home or business may have a capacity of less than 100 kilowatts. Some large commercial sized turbines may have a capacity of 5 million watts, or 5 megawatts. There are two types of wind machines used today based on the direction of the rotating shaft (axis):
- horizontal–axis wind machines
- vertical-axis wind machines.
Horizontal-axis
Most wind machines being used today are the horizontal-axis type. Horizontal-axis wind machines have blades like airplane propellers. A typical horizontal wind machine stands as tall as a 20-story building and has three blades that span 200 feet across. The largest wind machines in the world have blades longer than a football field! Wind machines stand tall and wide to capture more wind.
Vertical-axis
Vertical–axis wind machines have blades that go from top to bottom and the most common type (Darrieus wind turbine) looks like a giant two-bladed egg beaters. The type of vertical wind machine typically stands 100 feet tall and 50 feet wide. Vertical-axis wind machines make up only a very small percent of the wind machines used today.

For a wind turbine to work efficiently, wind speeds usually must be above 12 to 14 miles per hour. Wind has to be this speed to turn the turbines fast enough to generate electricity. The turbines usually produce about 50 to 300 kilowatts of electricity each. Once electricity is made by the turbine, the electricity from the entire wind farm is collected together and sent through a transformer. There the voltage is increase to send it long distances over high power lines.
The main advantage of wind energy is the zero emission of pollutants substances and greenhouse gases.The production of wind energy does not involve any kind of waste.

The main disadvantages are relatively limited energy resource, the inconstancy due to wind speed variation and the reduced number of possible locations. Few places on Earth offer the possibility to produce enough electricity using wind energy.

ELECTRIC CARS


An electric car is powered by an electric motor instead of a gasoline engine. The electric motor gets energy from a controller, which regulates the amount of power—based on the driver’s use of an accelerator pedal. The electric car uses energy stored in its rechargeable batteries, which are recharged by common household electricity. Historically, EVs have not been widely adopted because of limited driving range before needing to be recharged, long recharging times, and a lack of commitment by automakers to produce and market electric cars that have all the creature comforts of gas-powered cars. That’s changing. As battery technology improves—simultaneously increasing energy storage and reducing cost—major automakers are expected to begin introducing a new generation of electric cars. Electric cars produce no tailpipe emissions, reduce our dependency on oil, and are cheaper to operate. Of course, the process of producing the electricity moves the emissions further upstream to the utility company’s smokestack—but even dirty electricity used in electric cars usually reduces our collective carbon footprint. This is the future and the future looks good.


Sun it is undoubtedly a vast source of energy. In just three days, the earth receives from the sun energy equivalent of existing reserves of fossil fuels.
Photovoltaic panels systems are able to transform solar energy directly into electricity through a complex chemical process. This way of producing electricity is environmentally friendly.
How it works:
Technology to generate energy photovoltaics uses as the basic element semiconductor cells, sometimes called wafers. The principle consists in the electric current generation between two electrodes attached to a solid or liquid system , under the direct action of sunlight. Almost all photovoltaic cells are made from silicon of different types, with a yield between 7 % and 18%. To produce electricity, cells are being coupled (between 36 and 72 ) in a panel . Practically all devices incorporate photovoltaic semiconductor over which the solar brightness is transformed into electricity. The power differs depending on how they are assembled semiconductor cells, but also the intensity of sunlight.
The system comprised of a battery that will store enough energy to survive even a long winter nights. In favorable environmental conditions, a part of the energy is consumed and the excess is stored in batteries and is consumed during the night or in unfavorable weather.
Disadvantages: No Disadvantage In This System.
So this is another step towards an favorable environment to life.



How can we reduce pollution of the planet? The answer is recycling materials. It is one of the easiest ways to protect the planet against pollution. Each of us can participate in the recycling process. Unlike the other methods of greening the recycling involves less effort on the part of our consumers. Our contribution to the method of recycling consists in sorting household waste before being disposed of in containers. So to the consumer involves recycling of all just a little attention to sorting waste. Recycling works by the''nothing is lost, everything is reuse''. This is theory, but in practice ...

ts, batteries, biochemical compounds, electronic devices, ferrous and nonferrous metals, glass, paper, plastics, textile matermaterials.
Why should recycled materials? Here are some environmental benefits of recycling endowment:
- Prevents the destruction of natural habitats of animals, biodiversi

- Help to conserve natural resources; - Reduce the number of pollutants in the air and water;
- Reduce the CO2 emissions created by extracting and processing minerals;
Besides the benefits that recycling has on the environment and th
ere are economic benefits:
- The actual costs of designing a product are much higher than the costs recycling;
- Creation of new jobs;
- Reusable assets are better built and can appreciate the value of time;

So, by using waste instead of raw mater
ials not only preserve the environment and natural resources but also reduce pollution and energy demand. Our participation in recycling is imperative and necessary.

GLOBAL WARMING


This is my first post and i try to notice some problems looking pollution.The biggest pollution problem is global warming. This happens when greenhouse gases, such as CO2 are released into the atmosphere, trapping heat and causing the planet to warm up.This is a natural causes of global warming but let's see ''man-made'' causes: burning fossil fuels is one thing that causes pollution, the increase in population makes the problem worse because we breathe out CO2. Also, the trees that convert our CO2 to oxygen are being demolished because we are using the land that we cut the trees down from as property for our homes and buildings. We are not replacing the trees, so we are constantly taking advantage of our natural resources and giving nothing back in return.
The effects of global warming are ireversible. The climate change may be observed, rising sea levels, glacier retreat, Arctic shrinkage. Secondary or regional effects include extreame weather events, an expansion of tropical diseases, changes in timing of seasonal patterns in ecosystems.Global warming is affecting many parts of the world, animals, plants and if this two parts of the world are affected...we are affected.
